Lawyer, Author, Father, Aging Athlete, Part-Time Activist, and More…

Welcome to JasonPyrz.com, where you can learn more than you’ve ever wanted to know about the man with no vowels in his last name (I don’t count the “sometimes Y,” and it’s pronounced Peerz, by the way).

This is a brand-spankin’ new version of my site (as of April 2025), and I’m still working on the content below, so sit tight while I finish that up in my free time.

Jason’s Blog

Do people still use the term “blog?” Regardless, I’m hoping this will be the bit of this site that replaces the cesspool known as Facebook, and my dwindling interest therewith. I’ve started by adding the serialized blog posts I wrote for Hire an Esquire, back in 2019. Additional posts to follow – hopefully.

Jason’s Professional Exploits

Want to know more about what I do to pay the bills? This section will cover that.

I began my professional life back in college, as an undergrad at Loyola University of Chicago, in between majoring in political science and playing volleyball for their NCAA D-1 volleyball program – I walked on to the team, so don’t be too impressed (although I did actually get a fair amount of playing time, and I did score the first match point in Loyola history). But I digress.

In college I started a web design company with a few friends, which led to a job as a webmaster in Boston, which led to a job as a project manager in Chicago, which led to law school in Los Angeles, which led to practicing as an attorney in Orange County, then Chicago, then Orange County, which then led to me never wanting to practice again, which led to me going back into project management outside of the legal industry, which led to me leading the North American legal project management function for one of the largest law firms in the world (read the How Did I Get Here blog posts for all the details). Those pictures above show me doing what I do, in some of the places where I do it.

If you’re here because you want to decide whether you want to offer me an amazing new job, feel free to click either of the links below.

Jason’s Volunteer Endeavors

Want to know more about what I do to give back? Look no further.

I’ve been on the board of the Respiratory Health Association since 2017, a board officer since 2024, and have been a Lung Health Champion (raising more than $1,000, annually) since about 2010. I’ve known too many people, close family and friends, who have died or otherwise been impacted as a result of lung cancer – it’s not a nice way to leave this world, and the RHA is committed to ending lung disease and supporting those who suffer from the myriad ailments that affect our lungs.

I am also passionate about LBGTQ+ rights. As someone who identifies as part of the LGBTQ+ community, and has too many family members and friends to count who are also members of the community, I actively volunteer to support programs for LGBTQ+ youth, and donate to causes that protect the rights of all LGBTQ+ individuals. As the saying goes, it’s not a pie – equal rights for the minority does not mean less rights for the majority.

That One Time Jason Pretended to be an Author

In March of 2015, My first novel, Renaissance Spook, was published by Black Hill Press in California. The story deals with a disenchanted lawyer who believes his family is better off without him after his untimely death-by-squirrel. Equal parts supernatural fiction, 80s nostalgia, and homage to British humor, there’s got to be more people interested in this type of thing than the five who actually bought it, or the one person who borrowed it from the Naperville Public Library and corrected typos in the margins. I blame my editor, I would never have typed “should of” instead of “should have” – just typing it in that last sentence hurt my soul!

Anyway, follow the links below to learn more, but don’t expect to find a copy of the book available anywhere – the publisher shut down a few years ago (not because of my book!). If you really want one, let me know – I still have a bunch that have never had their spines cracked.

Jason’s Free-Time Shenanigans

Here are a few things I like to do when I’m not on the clock. Running (just finished the 2025 Chicago Marathon – my first ever marathon), skyscraper stair climbs, 3-day bike rides, not-so-closeted Disney adult, spending time with my daughter, putting together websites, and doing whatever else strikes my fancy. I also seem to have gotten addicted to Mario Golf Super Rush lately. You can find me there under my username, J. Pizzle (and no, I had no idea what “pizzle” meant when I chose that screen name, I just tried to Snoopify my last name). If you’d like to add me as a friend on the Nintendo Switch, my code is SW-6905-6496-5878.

This section will grow a bit when I have more time to, well, grow it.
